Job Description - Facilities Supervisor
Salary: $25.00 per hour

Reports to: College Principal & or Board Representatives

Contract period: 6 months (first 3 months will be probationary); renewable

Hours of work: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday; these hours are flexible.

Note: the needs of the school may require your services after 5:oo p.m. and on
weekends.

Leave: 7 days Sick leave in the first year of service; 14 days annual paid vacation
leave

school term and other peak times

Direct responsibility for: Cleaners – full time & part time, maintenance/grounds
staff

Job Summary

  • Under the direction of the Board representative and Principal plan, assign and manage the work of cleaners and grounds and maintenance personnel.
  • Train and evaluate the above categories of staff.
  • Work effectively and respectfully with all the categories of staff at the College and all Board representatives.
  • Be responsible for all aspects of the college’s facilities management and related staff to always ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of the college’s buildings and grounds.
  • Qualifications & Professional experience
  • Secondary school Level of Education.
  • At least two years’ experience in Facilities Management and Supervisory experience.
  • Certificates in Facilities Management and Project Management will be considered an asset.

Requirements

  • Hands-on knowledge and experience in the safe operation of a variety of tools, machinery, power equipment used in performing essential functions.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritise, and efficiently complete all activities and supervise the completion of all tasks.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to interact/communicate with all categories of persons including teachers, administrators, board members, parents, and students.

Main duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, assign and manage maintenance and cleaning personnel;
  • Ensure that school buildings, grounds, facilities, and equipment meet operational, health, safety and security policies and guidelines
  • Inspect school buildings and grounds to assure that proper safety, cleaning, and sanitation standards are maintained
  • Inspect and review work performed by external maintenance vendors to
    assure satisfactory completion
  • Plan, assign and manage the work of grounds-keeping personnel engaged in maintenance and care of the school environment – playing field, landscaping, drains and any other area that needs to be maintained
  • Consult with the College Principal in planning the maintenance and cleaning of school grounds and buildings, maintenance of school furniture and fittings.
  • Assist with the ordering of cleaning supplies and materials needed to maintain school.
  • Train and evaluate all grounds and cleaning personnel; conduct meetings with assigned personnel to provide technical work direction and general information.
  • Develop weekly and monthly maintenance schedules and set routine programmes of work for cleaning staff, premises and grounds maintenance staff to ensure consistently high standards of hygiene, cleanliness, upkeep of all school buildings and premises.
  • Conduct semi-annual inventory counts; implement a proper system for issuing and receiving inventory.
  • To be responsible for the upkeep of playing fields, gardens, all weather surfaces and to ensure the maintenance of boundaries, footpaths, roads and rights of way within the school premises
  • To manage all aspects of any building projects and maintenance work undertaken on the school premises, including acting as a point of contact /liaison with building contractors
  • To attend meetings as and when required.
  • To maintain confidentiality of information acquired while undertaking duties for the school.
  • Plan and implement a preventive maintenance program for school buildings and grounds.
  • Coordinate the use of school facilities with staff; assist the public as necessary.
  • Assure that all safety requirements and Covid-19 protocols are followed by junior staff.
  • Ensure that all leave for staff under supervision is submitted to management in a timely manner – sick leave and vacation leave.
  • Monitor and verify junior staff attendance record
